Announcing The Double Bill Blogathon II. Now with extra cheeze!
July 21st, 2009 | by Gautam |“The double feature, also known as a double bill, was a motion picture industry phenomenon in which theatre managers would exhibit two films for the price of one, supplanting an earlier format in which one feature film and various short subject reels would be shown.”

For those who came in late, the first ever Double Billathon was held between October 22nd and 26th, 2007. It was meant to be an annual blogathon but due to my commitments to the big grand rat race, I could not conduct it last year. Ever since I’ve been off the blogosphere in the past one year, I’ve noticed a steady fall in the number of blogathons being proposed which is really such a shame because I remember it as a fun and interactive thing that us cinebloggers do. I hope we see more second and third editions of other great blogathons- the Bizarro, Close-up, the Kurosawathon and the Dance movie blogathon.
The veterans- you know the rules of play. Put on your marketing hat and spread the word!
The new joinees- here are the 3 commandments of the Double Billathon:
- The Blogathon begins on Monday, October 5th at Midnight IST and ends on Friday, October 9th at Midnight IST.
- You must form a Double-bill of two films (that usually have something in common) and write an article on them. There is no limit to the number of articles you can submit.
- Innovative post titles are a must! (A nod of respect to the classic Double-bill tradition).
So are you in? Then leave me a comment saying so and I will add you to the list.
Here are some banners to put up on your blogs and websites. Please link them back to the following link:

Only 75 days to go! So take out that box of Grindhouse VHS tapes from the top of your highly neglected closet and start watching.

This is a great idea. I remember the first blog-a-thon well and I’m glad you’re revisiting the idea. I’ll surely be contributing once again.
I’ve also added your listing to the Film Blog Calendar, a new site that keeps track of all kinds of blogathons and other events going on among film blogs. I hope it’ll become a new central gathering point for people from all over the blogosphere.

Gautam, I’ll really try to be part of this. I’ve got a busy festival season ahead, but this falls at a good time. I’ll probably be doing the silent and 1950s versions of Ben-Hur, if that works for you.

Looking forward to it. I’ve often thought of witty film title combos, but I think I’ll write about an obscure historical link between a screwball comedy and a disaster film…
