Double Bill-a-thon 2007

October 25th, 2007 | by Gautam |

“The double feature, also known as a double bill, was a motion picture industry phenomenon in which theatre managers would exhibit two films for the price of one, supplanting an earlier format in which one feature film and various short subject reels would be shown.”

It is finally here! It is that time of the year when the air outside starts to take on a slight chill, when the spirit of the day is a tickling ghoul, when Charles Dickens would start writing ghost stories just in time for publication during Christmas, when the warmth of festivity starts to settle in and single servings don’t quite satisfy our hunger. It is time to re-visit, remember and re-explore the world of the notorious phenomenon that is the Double Bill! Starting today, for the next five days the best of the cinema blogs in the blogosphere will churn out articles on back-to-back cinematic masterpieces that will have your back nailed to wall and your eyes cello-taped wide open.

To enter your contribution to the blogathon kindly post a link in the comments section.

Presenting, the official list of the 1st Annual Double Bill-a-thon.

Here’s my second contribution, this time it’s a Transgressive Sex Double Feature of “I Am Curious — Yellow” and “Sweet Movie,” two films primarily known now for the shock value of their explicit sex. I explore whether they have anything else to offer besides shocks and pubic hair, and how well they work together as a double bill:

Sorry to disappoint you Brian, but you just missed the blogathon by a little bit. Thanks for your contribution, there are some great comparisions in your link and I will surely give them a read.

    Hi Gautam,

Damn, I’m sorry I missed the blog-a-thon…I was assuming it ran until midnight in my time zone. Congrats on what looked like a great

I didn’t really have anything terribly great, but I wrote a review for a couple of films I saw at the recent Toronto After Dark Film Festival and linked them together because of their subject matter (or at least their jumping off point for each story). One is whacked out Korean animation and the other is an American Indie Horror.

I didn’t get a cool title for it either unfortunately…

Here it is anyway –> http://eternalsunshineofthelogicalmind.blogspot.com/2007/10/toronto-after-dark-aachi-ssipak-and_23.html
