A Blogathon Concluded, A Milestone Reached: The Double Bill-a-thon 2007 Thank Yous

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Though the concept of Double Bill was an American tradition, it holds its pricelessness (or more fittingly less-priceness) throughout the world. Living in a country like India, I never had the pleasure of watching two films for the price of one but the concept was introduced to me on the cable channel STAR Movies which had Double Bills running every thursday night in the 1990s. It was only in the years that followed that I was introduced to the history of Double Bills.

I had the idea for the blogathon in my head for quite a while before I proposed it and I wasn’t sure how it was going to happen as it is the first time I’m hosting a blogathon. The various posts at Flickhead and Cinebeats were clear inspirations behind the blogathon. I finally decided to announce a date for the blogathon and I had strategically planned it to start on Monday the 22nd (one day after the conclusion of the Close-up Blogathon) and end on Friday the 26th (thats double for 13th!) which also happens to be the day Broken Projector has been online for 100 Days!

Such special coincidences, such a special idea and such a special event! I cannot say how delighted I am to recieve such a great response to this little idea of mine. I would first like to thank all the wonderful people in the blogosphere who’ve put up the Double Bill-a-thon banners on their blogs and spread the word around over the last few weeks.

Coming to the entries to the blogathon, I’m pleased to say that these are 24 of the best posts a blogathon could have! I’ve tried my best to post a comment on each of the contributing blogs and let them know how much I love their post. I’m happy to report that after the blogathon, my Blogroll has grown considerably in size and helped me find some new friends in the blogosphere. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of the 18 participating bloggers:

  • Arbogast: As promised you’ve blown our minds- twice!
  • Marilyn: Your superior intellect comes out beautifully in your writing.
  • Flickhead: It was a sheer pleasure getting an eyeful of those lovely STRAND posters.
  • David Gaffen: For bringing Superman to this blogathon.
  • GCCR: Your blog is an incredible find!
  • Ed Hardy, Jr.: For bringing Seijun Suzuki and for your constant encouragement.
  • Ed Howard: For the insightful discussion on Godard.
  • Adam Hunt: For kick-starting the blogathon, a day before it even began!
  • Jeff Ignatius: For being one of the best blogs in the blogosphere.
  • Jahsonic: I cannot say how much I learn from your blog and your wiki.
  • J.D.: You took the blogathon to the 70s!
  • Joachim: For bringing Wong Kar-Wai.
  • Vincent: For breaking the boundaries of language, Merci!
  • Jonathan Lapper: Your contribution was certainly one of the most powerful.
  • Kimberly: For the phenomenon that is Cinebeats.
  • Peter Nellhaus: For an incredible take on an otherwise laughable subject.
  • Piper: As hilarious as ever! I’m still giggling on 2001: A Space Balls!
  • Adam Ross: Who else thought of a Batfink intermission? Simply Brilliant of you!

A Big Thank You to all the bloggers listed above! I hope to see you all again next year in the 2nd Annual Double Bill-a-thon (Coming October 2008). There is still a lot going on in the blogosphere, head on over to Ed Hardy, Jr’s list of movies that give you the willies and vote for your favorites before the 28th! With Halloween around the corner it is perhaps time to get into the spirit (pardon the pun) and write something on your favorite horror films. November brings Diwali – India’s biggest festival! Followed by the Akira Kurosawathon on November 15th! Then there’s thanksgiving, christmas and the end of the year with The Endings Blogathon. That’s altogether only 66 days of 2007 left and so much to do! Hope you had fun, its has been my pleasure!
